Day 91: Holy Hangover

My great pal from Ohio came into town for work this week and happily reminded me of all my bad college/ high school habits. Err lots of wine and vodka. To say that I don’t feel very well today is an understatement. EVEN after a Starbucks sausage breakfast sandwich and a Wetzels pizza pretzel…I’m still not cured.

Of all days, it just so happened that our water was mistakingly TURNED OFF! There’s nothing quite as fun as running to the mall every half hour to use the bathroom and brush your teeth. The swimming pool also is a great backup for shaving your legs in a pinch. The things you learn from roughing it in LA- I could write a handbook.

Day 90: Queen B

In excitement for Julia Robert’s new movie Mirror Mirror, which opens this weekend, I decided to dress up/act like a Queen B today.  Well… I act like a Queen B everyday…shoot.

Unfortunately, all of my ball gowns were unavailable at the moment, so I had to be a rather casual queen. I’m wearing all of my sisters brand new clothes, and she was actually pretty cool about it. It’s probably because I just lent her my gown for a photo shoot.

My favorite ball gown I’ve ever purchased (really my only ball gown), came from a fantastic store on the Upper West Side called “Off Broadway Boutique.” I lived above this masterpiece of a store for about 5 months in NYC without ever going inside! Boy, was I missing out. The store is gaudy… full of rhinestones, wigs, used clothes and costumes. It’s fabulous for old ladies, drag “queens,” and ME! The owner is 78, a total Broadway diva, and apparently shares a similar taste in clothes, because I love every tacky piece in the store! If you live in NYC and like to dress up like a princess/queen, check this place out!

Day 89: Quick and Curious, I’m a CAT!

Grace bought a Kate Spade phone case over Christmas, and posted this packaging that came with it on our mirror. I have been looking at this poster every single morning as I get ready for the past 3 months, and every day it bugs me! What woman wants to be “quick, curious, and playful?” Is it just me or does it sound like she is describing a CAT?! The “strong” part throws me off. Maybe a Cheetah!

Let’s talk about good describing words to aspire to be…hmm. Successful? Educated? Independent? Worldly? Loving?

Eh, Kate Spade can stick to “quick and curious.” Cassie will stick to Marc Jacobs…their ads may be odd…but at least they’re not dumb!

Day 88: I’M HAPPY DAMMIT!

My girlfriend sent me a text this morning and said that I need to be happier on the blog. She said she doesn’t want to hear that I hate The Final 4 (here) or Draw Something (here). She wants to be “enligtened,” when she reads my blog first thing in the morning.

Well…I’m not Josh Groban or anything…but I will do my best, because I’M HAPPY DAMMIT!

I’m so HAPPY, I will leave all my sarcastic asshole remarks aside until tomorrow, and will instead enjoy this beautiful sunshine while sipping cool drinks poolside. I’m HAPPY to be raised up where I can stand on mountains and walk on stormy seas. I am strong when I am on your shoulders, you raise me up to more than I can be.

HAPPY Melissa? Hope this was enlightening :)

Now give me my TUDE back! UGH!

Day 87: Draw NOTHING.

I just can’t get with the trend of Draw Something. Tars and Grace arrived back in LA today, and spent the ENTIRE day drawing stick figures and sending them to each other.

First off, my finger is way too big and I get frustrated when I can’t neatly draw my image (personal problem). Secondly, I lose patience waiting for the other person to draw their dumb picture. Grace makes the image into a masterpiece and it takes forever! The whole thing gives me anxiety.

You won’t find me on Draw Something for long. I’m deleting that app asap to save room for more important things….like….you know…Doodlejump.

*Wonderful blemish showed up on my cheek today..so I colored it with liquid eyeliner and turned it into a beauty mark! So Marilyn of me.

Day 86: House Arrest

Lazy Sunday is an understatement.

I decided not to leave the house today, at all, and instead spent the day in my “bear hug” pajama dress. It sounded like a good idea in the morning, considering it was pouring rain and the sky was a sad shade of grey. I got rather stir crazy and bored around 1:00 pm. To pass the time, I did yoga on YouTube (actually really fun!), ate marshmallows dipped in a jar of peanut butter (slim pickings), organized my junk drawer, read a book, memorized scripts just because, roasted brussel sprouts, and tried to buy this Karl Lagerfeld doll online: http://www.ebay.com/itm/KARL-LAGERFELD-MUA-MUA-DOLL-RARE-LIMITED-EDITION-SOLD-OUT-VIP-BRAND-NEW-/260984206889?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cc3def629#ht_500wt_1128). Yea I was pissed at the price too.

Tomorrow I will get back to being productive…. or else!

Funny thing happened last night. I was getting the car from the Casa Vega valet guy, (who spoke very little English) and he told me I looked like Scooby Doo. I was so confused! Like the dog?

Then I thought….ohh I’m wearing my glasses…maybe I look like Velma? She’s short and stocky so I was a little offended. I was wearing a bright scarf as well, and he said, “No the other girl…with the scarf!” I googled it…I do kind of look like Daphne! Maybe Halloween 2012? Just need someone to help me find those fierce purple shoes!

Velma Dinkley vs. Daphne Blake:

Day 85: Final Four, huh?

Maybe I’m a super nerd, but I know nothing about the Final Four…and don’t really care to either. Perhaps my lack of involvement with sports stems from never having played any (well…besides 4th grade volleyball, when I was benched because I always skipped practice for dance). All I really remember is my annoyance at those stupid March Madness brackets. The first I recall seeing them was about the 2nd grade, and I have yet to participate to this day. I only know that throughout grade school, the boys would pay no attention to us girls during “March Madness,” and instead would be analyzing their charts. I was always super irritated.

Final 4 dresses left at Neimans? I get it. Final 4 cupcakes at Crumbs? I’m running. Final 4 minutes in the tanning booth? I’m burning. Final 4 teams left in college basketball? Umm…huh?!

Once a nerd….always a nerd!

OK- not gonna lie. I did actually seek out information to find out if Ohio State won. If I’m going to root for someone, it might as well be them. Go Bucks!

Day 84: White Blank Page

I’ve been super inspired to choreograph lately, so I spend my days seeking out new music on Itunes and Spotify. If I don’t have any castings, I usually go on an afternoon hike through the Hollywood Hills and “arm choreograph,” including lots of head rolls and emotions. It’s fun to watch bystanders stare at me. Anyone care to join? I’ll promise to embarrass you.

What I’m listening to now (download!):

-”Love on the Radio” by Justin Hopkins. He was just on The Voice and I love this song!
-Anything by Oh Land. This week obsessing over “Helicopter.”
-”White Blank Page” by Mumford and Sons. Company C did a number to it last weekend and I can’t get it out of my head!
-”One Foot” by Fun. The whole album is fantastic. The singer of this track sounds eerily similar to Eminem (who I love).
-”All of Me” by Tanlines.
-”Feels Good at First” by Train. This song is so smart. I love lyrics that make total sense!

Day 83: I’m Hungry for THE HUNGER GAMES!

Grace was really dying to do a Katniss photo shoot for The Hunger Games…so I let her! Why not? When she’s on the blog I have 3x the viewers anyways. Way to make a big sis feel cool! :)

Grace read the series wayy before it was even trendy (thanks to a super hip 4th grade teacher…Mrs B!), and then passed the books along to me. It’s been such a long time, I can barely remember the story line. I do know that I am dying to see the movie this weekend, and that I loved every second of each book.

I was reading in Teen Vogue a list of books that are like The Hunger Games, one being Divergent by Veronica Roth. It was pretty great. I also just purchased Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi, which was also on the list.  At the store, when I asked where to find the books and was pointed directly to the “teen” section, the woman gave me a funny look and I was a little mortified. It’s almost a diss to my intelligence. Maybe I should keep trucking through Shantaram, which I really like, but have been reading for a solid year. Who am I kidding? I still act like a teen, why not read like one! SORRY BOOK STORE LADY, I’m sticking to kiddo books. BAM.

Gracie’s “May the odds be ever in your favor” Look: Jacket and Leggings by Lululemon, Skirt by Wet Seal, Official Hunger Games pin, Boots by Michael Kors, Blue Eyeliner by Urban Decay, Bow and Arrow…a Tars original.

Day 82: I’m Alive, Pregnant, and Halle Berry

Things that I find relevant today:

1. Celine Dion’s “A New Day” album is being revisited to promote the 10th anniversary. Why is this good news? Because this happens to be my favorite album of all time (or pretty close to)! If you saw her Vegas show, you would understand. “I’m Alive” is probably the happiest song on Earth.

2. Reese Witherspoon is pregnant. Finally… someone normal and adorable to take away the nightmares of Jessica Simpson’s naked Elle cover, and Snooki’s pregnancy…both enough to scare me into never having children!

3. Today I dressed up as a modern Halle Berry in The Flintstones. I can pretend to dress up like her any day of the week…yet I never really will resemble her. What a bummer!
