Day 31: Fortune Cookie

To celebrate the Chinese New Year, the bro, sis, and I went out to PF Changs for dinner (they were having specials for the occasion, and chain restaurants remind us of home). After dinner, I carefully chose the fortune cookie that I wanted for dessert, and was surprised at how fitting the message was! Can I be adventuresome? Heck yes! Do I love a new look? Why OF COURSE!

My sister wore an orange Jessica Simpson dress (with additional ribbon added by Tars) to a premiere a few months back. It has been hanging in the closet ever since and today’s weather was perfect for a summer dress, so I threw it on. Plus, it’s a size 0 and actually zipped (the most thrilling part of all)! I thought it was an adventurous choice, considering orange is typically a no-no for redheads. The dress fit perfectly with the fortune cookie theme, and is a new look for me, so I was very thankful that G let me borrow it. Also, once she has been photographed in an outfit, she can’t wear it again, so…lucky perk pour moi! We are now pretty close to the same size, and can share EVERYTHING! She is not thrilled. At all.

Day 30: Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous

I was fortunate enough to spend the weekend at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach. My boyfriend’s godfather was visiting from Portland and invited us down to spend the evening. We dined on the most excellent food with a group of 19 last night. We then spent the morning overlooking an infinity pool and the ocean while eating breakfast. I have to say I felt like the most spoiled girl in the world. Newport Beach is quite the bubble of the rich and privileged. I certainly enjoyed being there, but was happy to return to LA. Back to reality.

The SAG Awards also took place this weekend, and my favorite pastime is watching the red carpet to see what the stars chose to wear. In my opinion, Ashlee Simpson was by far the best dressed, wearing a Jenny Packham beaded gown (Angelina Jolie also chose this designer). Zoe Saldana, who stunned in a Givenchy white gown, would take my second place. She looked breathtaking.

I was most inspired by Mary Tyler Moore, who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. I never really watched her show, but was surprised to learn that she started as a chorus dancer, and then became a model, before being cast in The Dick Van Dyke Show. Her show (The Mary Tyler Moore Show) changed the history of television, being the first show to showcase a single career  woman in relationships based outside of the home.

Starting my career as a chorus dancer, and then transitioning to modeling, I was very moved by Moore’s story. I went directly to Amazon and bought her autobiography entitled, “After All.” I can’t wait to share more when I am finished with the book!

Enough of the rich and the famous, now back to the grind.

Day 29: Fat Kid

Ever have one of those days where you just feel disgusting? Answer: yes? I’m with ya! I spent three hours this morning shopping for a dress for a dinner party in Laguna Beach and NOTHING fit. I mean NOTHING! I decided the best way to cheer myself up from feeling fat and gross, would be to actually be fat and gross!

I have passed Carney’s Hot Dogs and Hamburgers since the day I moved to LA. I thought the little train car restaurant was adorable, plus it reminded me of the Boxcar Children book series, which I was obsessed with as a kid. After my horrible experience at the mall, I figured today was the perfect day to drop the diet and try this place out. I don’t have a great relationship with hot dogs ( I think they are disgusting… except for once in a blue moon at a Dodger or Mudhens game). Today was no different. I took one bite of this Carney dog and spat it out immediately on the ground. Guess Cassie and hotdogs are only meant to be together in pictures. Less calories consumed, so maybe I’ll feel better tomorrow!

Day 28: Groupies!

For Christmas this year, our sweet brother surprised Grace and I with concert tickets. We were soooo excited to see (drumroll)……WILCO!

Wait? Who the heck is Wilco?  We weren’t exactly sure. To help us out, brother bear burned some cd’s for us to listen to in the car. He wanted to prepare us for the big event (what a great guy). We accidentally forgot about them.

Which brings us to the BIG dilemma: How do you dress for a concert, when you have no idea who the band is? Our first thought was to go full out rock and roll and mimic KISS. The BF informed me that that was definitely a no-go (not that we cared, but we couldn’t find face paint or black and silver leotards anyway). Next, we googled “groupie,” and images of topless hippies with flowers in their hair popped up. Clearly we were not doing that with the bro. AWKWARD.

We settled on 60′s inspired groupies, our point of reference being the movie, That Thing You Do.  It turned out really great!

In a last attempt to not look like tards, we changed into flannels and our everyday hipster looks. After going to the concert and seeing the chill indie band, we were certainly glad we changed!

Fun Fact: I was walking in front of Grace and I heard her dying laughing. I said, “Grace, what’s so funny?” She squealed, “When you walk, the faces on your dress move and it looks like your butt cheeks are talking to each other!!!” Nice observation G.

Day 27: What A Beachhhh!

All of you folks in the frigid cold, be jealous! It was the most beautiful day in LA, (83 degrees to be exact) and I had a callback in Santa Monica, so it was destined that we (Chance and I) hit the beach. We ran along the ocean, did some shopping, and of course, enjoyed an ocean-side adult beverage. It was a great run and I was easily distracted because Venice is full of entertaining (…err weird) people to watch. We were approached by circus freaks, tattoo artists, potheads, hobos, and street musicians, all asking for money or business (interesting considering we were in workout clothes and had nothing on us).

In fact, we had so much fun that we overlooked the time, and make it home just AFTER the sun had set ( Agh! I needed that light for the blog photo shoot)! Turns out, the only light available was by the pool. I tried a couple of shots, but it was completely black and crappy looking, so I had to actually jump in the water (and I don’t swim. EVER)! It was freezing!!!

100% dedication to the blog.

Day 26: It’s a Man’s World

My best pal Chance is in town all week, and I am totally loving his blazers and matching ties… so I borrowed one! The thing about men is: they say exactly what they think. Wouldn’t life be so much easier if women did the same? I was talking with a girlfriend today about being in an industry (like acting) where you are in control of your career. Sometimes, it is easier to sit back and wait for things to happen or not speak up because you don’t want to hurt feelings. In a man’s world, you put it all on the table and get what you want!

Day 25: Extremely Loud and Incredibly LOUDER!

I love going to the movies, although recently I’ve had the worst experiences with LOUD CHEWERS ruining the movie. Who chose popcorn as a snack anyway? It is the loudest, crunchiest, most obnoxious food.  Why not pick something quiet? Marshmallows? At least you can’t chomp on those. I’ve always been very sensitive to loud chewing…any noise really. It bugs me! Those movie people get me every time… they wait for the most quiet, suspenseful part of the film to start chowing on handfuls of popcorn. Quit it already! While I’m at it, eating during live theatre performances is unacceptable as well. There is nothing worse than seeing a Broadway show and not being able to enjoy it because the goober next to you is unwrapping their GOOBER chocolates. Enough eaters! Save it for home!

Day 24: In the Jungle…the Lion Sleeps Tonight

Today I was inspired by Jane Goodall. I was watching a documentary about her life and it was quite fascinating. She moved to Africa at age 26 to live with the chimps and basically became one of them. I think I was so enthralled because, a. she is my age (I could never image being in the jungle alone) and b. I know nothing about Africa (I like to look at wilderness, not be in it).

I’ve had my run with Mother Nature. She doesn’t like me. Probably the best example was last summer in Colorado. After being hesitant about mountain climbing, I happened to trip over a branch and rolled down an entire mountain (ripped the crotch out of my jeans…drama). My family laughed and took pics. So loving.

I might sound very naive saying I don’t know anything about Africa, but I don’t. Now that I watched the documentary, I am much more knowlegable. I have a little background though… my cousins and I dressed up as Africa for Halloween (on the fly had to think of a group costume).

Basically, Jane Goodall was a risk taker and a badass. I could use to be a little more like her.

Day 23: My New Sexy Tattoo

Couldn’t decide between a rose, cross, or some barbed wire.

Ha, yea right. Tars would take my head off! G and I had a great afternoon applying new lip tattoo’s made by Violent Lips. I must admit, they were difficult to apply and sort of look just like lipstick, but we had some great laughs during the whole process. The lip tattoo is applied just like a temporary tattoo (peel the plastic cover, apply the tattoo, and hold a cold compress for stick). The difficult part is cutting the tattoo to fit your exact lip shape, or else you end up with some funky, diseased-looking thing hanging from your lip (noted from experience).

The gold lip reminded me of Ke$ha, and so I felt inspired to bring out my inner white trash. Here’s a music video I did with her awhile back. You will totally get the reference after viewing.

Can you find my lips? (Hint: I have the whitest teeth, thanks Crest)

Day 22: A Fishy Story

My fish tale:

I had time to kill between auditions and was starving, so I decided to stop at Whole Foods and get my favorite “Cranberry Tuna” from their deli. Second bite in, and something went horribly wrong. I had a sharp, pointy object in my mouth. I spat it on the table and was shocked to find a smaller version of a shark’s tooth. A TUNAFISH TOOTH! How did I know it was a tooth? You remember those shark necklaces the hot guys wore in Jr High. Well, I studied those a lot in math class. Now here’s the funny part…this is the SECOND time this has happened to me. I was annoyed, so I tweeted “Fish tooth in my tuna again at Whole Foods #nasty.” I didn’t tag Whole Foods, but apparently the mobile version automatically does. An hour later I got an EMAIL from Whole Foods and a tweet saying, “@ihavetude  A fish tooth? Did you contact the store to tell them what you found?” It was really funny. Who would have thought Whole Foods would tweet back? Grandma Una informed me it probably wasn’t a tooth, just a piece of spine that was mashed in. Um, disgusting! Regardless, I KNOW a tooth when I see one, and I had a tunafish tooth in my lunch (twice).
